BOISE, Idaho — The Horsethief Reservoir campgrounds in Cascade are closed until further notice as the Snag Fire continues to pose a threat to those in the area.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) on Friday said the campgrounds were closed at the request of fire operations personnel as crews continue working to protect the area.

The Snag Fire is burning eight miles east of Cascade in Valley County. It has burned 19,828 acres and is 0% contained as of Friday, Aug. 16. The Warm Lake area and the Horsethief area are on level 1 evacuation notice, meaning “be ready.”

Idaho Fish and Game said firefighters are asking the public to avoid the area to allow crews to keep themselves and others safe.

Fall hunting season is approaching, and IDFG wants to remind hunters to check with their district's forest service ranger for closures.
