All lanes of I-84 reopen near Hood River after semi-truck caught on fire and spread

A semi-truck hauling cardboard bales caught on fire and "quickly spread into the wildland," Cascade Locks Fire and EMS said.

HOOD RIVER, Ore. — All lanes of Interstate 84 westbound are back open Wednesday morning after an extended closure following a semi-truck and brush fire Tuesday night about two miles west of Hood River.

The westbound lanes reopened around 8:35 a.m., according to the Oregon Department of Transportation. The eastbound lanes had previously opened.

A semi-truck hauling cardboard bales caught on fire and "quickly spread into the wildland," according to a post on Facebook published around 11:30 Tuesday night from Cascade Locks Fire and EMS. The agency estimated the fire to be about two acres.

Around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Cascade Locks Fire said most of the semi-truck fire was out and the Oregon Department of Transportation was working to clean up the road. The Oregon Department of Forestry was fighting the brush fire "and will be most of Wednesday," Cascade Locks Fire said early Wednesday morning.
