BOISE, Idaho — As "The Simpsons" once sang as they danced around the living room, "you don't make friends with salad." In fact, Americans eat about 50 billion burgers every year.
Big Bun Drive-In in Boise is proving that theory right. The restaurant marks 70 years in the business.
Third generation owners Tyler and Joyce Kellogg said they appreciate the support they've gotten from the valley.
"We've been we've been fortunate to be a staple in the Valley for the last 70 years, people with all the large corporations moving in and stuff, we've been able to stay here at the same location and the local support has been great for the last seven years," Tyler said.
The restaurant celebrated the milestone Saturday, May 18 at its location on Curtis and Overland from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with free $25 gift cards to customers to spend at the restaurant.
The anniversary wasn't so much about the business itself, rather the customers.
"We thought it'd be really cool to get back to the community in a way that everyone can feel included in. So, we're going to do $25 gift cards to anyone in line any cards that pull up we'll hand out a gift card to them and they can get food for free today," Joyce said.
The day was about generations of the Kellogg family giving back to generations of Idaho families that have bitten into a Big Bun and they cannot lie.
"I think the biggest thing is just the nostalgia that we create for everybody here in Boise we hear so many stories almost on the daily about people that went to Borah and they've been coming here they came here with their grandparents and it just remembers I'm a reminds them of old time and we've stick pretty much the same rather than introducing few technologies here and there. We've kept the same nostalgia all the all throughout the year," Tyler said.
For those who missed the Saturday celebration, Big Bun is also giving away free milkshakes from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
