CALDWELL, Idaho — The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is closing the westbound Interstate 84 (I-84) on-ramp at Franklin Road in Caldwell starting Wednesday, May 29. The closure will last through late July.
ITD stated that the closure is necessary to reconstruct the road and install a new traffic light.
Traffic will be detoured to City Center/10th Avenue, which is Exit 28, via 21st Avenue and Blaine Street in Caldwell, said ITD.
According to a news release, the closure is to allow construction crews the space to get several projects done. They will be replacing the curb, gutter and sidewalks. Crews will also install a new barrier and guardrail in the area.
The roadway itself will be upgraded from asphalt to concrete and a new traffic signal is being installed, which will require large equipment in the on-ramp area. ITD stated in the news release that it is safer for drivers and construction crews to have the road closed while they work.
Roadwork on U.S. Highway 20/26 between I-84 and Middleton Road will continue well into the fall of this year.
ITD also wants to remind drivers to be aware of their surroundings, to slow down in construction zones and watch for posted signs and crews in the area.
