BOISE, Idaho — Across Idaho, several judicial courts are celebrating National Adoption Day on Nov. 17, a day early due to the holiday falling on a Saturday this year.
In a proclamation, signed in November by Chief Justice G. Richard Bevan, he states that in 2023 there were 260 children adopted in Idaho, and over 400 foster children still awaiting adoption.
"To help these children find permanent, nurturing families the courts of Idaho encourage you to celebrate with us on November 18 in raising awareness about the need for adoptive homes," the proclamation states.
Courtrooms across the state are celebrating with a series of events and adoption celebrations.
In the Treasure Valley, the Third Judicial District in Canyon County, in partnership with Region 3 Health and Welfare, will host a celebration including adoptions and a ceremony for families, said the news release. Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Director Dave Jeppeson is expected and will finalize an adoption for at least one family, said the release.
In Ada County, The Fourth Judicial District will have a number of adoption hearings. The court and county staff are donating gift baskets, cakes and books to each newly adopted child after their hearings are finalized.
For those located outside the Treasure Valley, there will be celebrations at the Second Judicial District in Lewiston, as well as celebrations at the Bannock County Courthouse in Pocatello. Rexburg will also host an Adoption Day event, with speakers and teddy bears for adopted children at the Madison County Courthouse.
