'Need has increased by 33%': Idaho Diaper Bank providing support for families

The Idaho Diaper Bank is raising awareness for the increasing need of diapers. The goal is to keep babies clean, dry and happy.

MERIDIAN, Idaho — The Idaho Diaper Bank is aiming to raise $10,000 to help provide Gem State families with clean diapers.

According to the Idaho Diaper Bank, 47% of Idaho households struggle to afford diapers for their babies.

Gov. Brad Little, Boise Mayor Lauren McLean and Meridian Mayor Robert Simison signed proclamations emphasizing the importance of diaper resources earlier this month.

“These are really important, because this shows the community that our government, our leaders, are behind this, and that it is important, and they're helping us spread the awareness," Idaho Diaper Banker Executive Director Traci Lofthus said.

The Idaho Diaper Bank works with partner agencies to distribute diapers throughout the state.

They also rely on donations of money and goods from the community.

"The Idahoans are very generous and I have seen that time and time again," Lofthus said. "But our need has increased by 33%, so we are distributing 33% more diapers than we did last year and our funds have not increased with that. And so we really need the funds to buy diapers."
