IDAHO, USA — All this week, KTVB is learning about Idaho's rules of the road.
Everyone can relate to the feeling when the light turns yellow, and in that split second, drivers have to decide whether or not to slow down and stop, or gun through the light.
"I do see some people pushing through. Where I would have stopped," Tyler Parent, a local community member said.
According to Idaho State Police (ISP), if you can safely stop behind the stop bar when the light turns yellow, that's what you should do.
If you have to slam on your brake in order to stop, you may consider going through the intersection if that's the safer choice.
People should never increase your speed to make the light, Brent Moore, Trooper for ISP District 3 told KTVB.
A good rule of thumb when deciding what to do is, if any part of your car is across the stop bar, you are good to go.
"As long as you are past that stop line while your vehicle is moving and that light is yellow, then you're good to go," Moore said.
Idaho does not have any red-light cameras, but if officers see you run a red light, you can be cited $90.
Moore said drivers should follow the law at all times.
