‘Every little bit helps’: Idaho family gathering donations to help with hurricane relief efforts

From now until Oct. 14, people can donate at Buhl Bible Church, New Life Christian Fellowship and the Grocery Outlet in Twin Falls.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho — The country's attention is on Florida, and people have it in their hearts to help with hurricane relief efforts, including Idahoans Jordan and Tiffany Greager.

The Greager’s are on staff at Buhl Bible Church, and after hearing about the destruction hitting the south after Hurricane Helene, they decided it was time to help.

“We're just two young parents with kids, and felt it on our hearts to try,” Tiffany said. “And so we just made some calls, reached out to our church, and people started stepping up, left and right.”

A member of their church donated a semi-truck for a period of time, that the Greager’s are now using to fill with supplies to then send to a ministry in Tennessee that is handing out donations.

“How many families, how many babies are out there, with no way to feed their children, no way to take care of their children's needs?” Tiffany said. “And that's what initially moved my heart so much.”

They are accepting food, water, first-aid kits, baby food, diapers, generators and more. A full list can be found on Buhl Bible Church’s Facebook.

“We felt it was our duty to be as faithful to fill that truck as we could,” Tiffany said.

Donation centers are set up at Buhl Bible Church, New Life Christian Fellowship in Wendell and the Grocery Outlet in Twin Falls. They will be there until Oct. 14.

“People are giving and they really do want to help,” Jordan said. “We get a lot of thankfulness that we're organizing it because they want to help, but they just aren’t sure what to do.”

What started as a calling on their hearts to help, has now turned into a way for their community to come together and serve those who are hurting, even from states away.

“It's easy to underestimate the impact that a single person can have, but when we come together, there's so much that we can do,” Jordan said.

The Greager’s will be accepting donations until Oct. 14, when they will make the journey to deliver the supplies.

“Every little bit helps, and it's a blessed experience for everyone, because they're actually touching something that they know is going to go into the hands of somebody that needs,” Jordan said.

The Red Cross also sent 14 volunteers from Idaho. They said they may send more, after seeing what damage Hurricane Milton causes.

People can donate to the Red Cross by texting HURRICANES to 90999, calling 800-RED-Cross or visiting redcross.org.

Red Cross said you can also help by donating blood after several blood drives in the south have been canceling, or signing up to be a Red Cross volunteer.
