Rainbow trout stocking to occur in Magic Valley throughout August

There are about to be around 24,000 new rainbow trout in the Magic Valley waters.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Idaho Fish and Game will be stocking an estimated 23,575 catchable-sized rainbow trout in the month of August in the Magic Valley region.

IDFG plans to release the fish weekly throughout August.  They will stock the trout following this schedule

  • Week 1 - August 5-9
    • Big Wood River - 950
    • North Fork Big Wood River - 250
    • Trail Creek - 350
    • Warm Springs Creek - 1,425
    • Lake Cleveland - 3,000
    • Hagerman Wildlife Management Area - 450
    • Big Smoky Creek - 1,200
    • Freedom Park Pond - 500
    • South Fork Boise River - 475
  • Week 2 - August 12-16
    • Big Wood River - 950
    • Gavers Lagoon - 1,425
    • North Fork Big Wood River - 225
    • Trail Creek - 350
    • Warm Springs Creek - 1,425
    • Hagerman Wildlife Management Area - 450
    • Big Trinity Lake - 1,200
    • Little Trinity Lake - 475
  • Week 3 - August 19-23
    • Niagara Springs - 500
    • Crystal Springs Lake - 600
    • South Fork Boise River - 2,900
    • Hagerman Wildlife Management Area - 450
    • Freedom Park Pond - 500
    • Rock Creek - 1,000
    • Fourth Fork Rock Creek - 325
    • Featherville Dredge Pond - 1,000
  • Week 4 - August 26-30
    • Castle Rocks State Park Fishing Pond - 750
    • Hagerman Wildlife Management Area - 450

Fish and Game recommends checking the Idaho Fishing Planner for a map of these locations. Fishing rules are different for each body of water and the time of year. The stocked trout were produced at Fish and Game's hatcheries in the Magic Valley region. The fish will be 10 to 12 inches which is catchable size for rainbow trout.
