BOISE, Idaho — Officials who hosted the annual Steps for Schools revealed Tuesday that the event has raised $48,000 in funding for Idaho schools.
In February, the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health program challenged lawmakers and statehouse officials to walk and participate in the annual event. 66 participated and they raised money for a school of their choosing. The event is meant to promote health and the importance of physical activity.
"We're grateful that so many of Idaho's legislators and constitutional officers made the effort to participate in Steps for Schools during the busy legislative schedule and helped a local school or school district in the process," said Kendra Witt-Doyle, executive director of the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health.
Blue Cross officials said participants were given step goals for the month of February: Those who walked 145,000 steps earned $500, and those who walked 290,000 earned $1000.
The news release states that Steps for Schools has raised over $316,000 since its inception in 2015.
