Idaho man dies after crash in Jerome County

Idaho Police said a 69-year-old Hazelton man died the day after he crashed his pickup into another vehicle on Highway 93.

A 69-year-old southern Idaho man died Thursday, a day after crashing his pickup into another vehicle in Jerome County.

Idaho State Police said Ramiro Gonzalez Gutierrez of Hazelton died Thursday after a crash at the intersection of U.S. 93 and Idaho 25, east of Jerome.

The crash happened at around 5:47 p.m., when police Gonzalez Gutierrez was eastbound on Highway 25 in a Chevrolet S-10. ISP said he stopped at the stop sign but didn't yield and crashed into a 2007 Honda Pilot that was going south on Highway 93.

Gonzalez Gutierrez and his passenger, Adela Lemus, 67, also of Hazelton, were taken to St. Luke's Magic Valley and later to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. ISP said investigators believe they weren't wearing seat belts.

The Pilot's driver - Michael Burton, 40, of Dietrich - wasn't transported. Neither was his passenger, 37-year-old Dietrich resident Robin Burton. They were both wearing seat belts.

The occupants of a nearby 2004 Volkswagen Jetta avoided injury after a tire from one of the other vehicles came off and hit it.

Southbound U.S. 93 was blocked for about two hours Wednesday while crews worked to clear the scene.
