ISP investigating incident after Indian reservation officers shoot, kill fleeing suspect

Indian reservation law enforcement officers shot and killed a man during a multi-state vehicle pursuit from Nevada into Idaho, according to Idaho State Police.

OWYHEE COUNTY, Idaho — Idaho State Police (ISP) is investigating a police shooting that occurred in Owyhee County Saturday after a vehicle pursuit crossing state lines from Nevada into Idaho, turned deadly.

On Saturday, March 2, Owyhee County Sheriff's Department (OCSD) requested ISP to investigate a fatal shooting between law enforcement officers with the U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and a man who fled the officers in a vehicle from the Duck Valley Reservation in Nevada to Owyhee County, Idaho. That's according to a news release from ISP.

The vehicle pursuit began in the Duck Valley Reservation. According to ISP, the man led BIA law enforcement officers into Owyhee County, where he then "ran from his vehicle and shots were fired."

The news release states that life saving measures were taken and first aid was provided to the victim, however, the man died to his injuries.

The Owyhee County coroner has yet to identify the man killed or determine his official cause of death.

However, in a phone conversation with Owyhee County Sheriff's Office, officials were able to verify that the man shot was indeed from the reservation, and he was shot by a BIA officer(s).

Idaho State Police is investigating the fatal shooting.
