BOISE, Idaho — This article originally appeared in the Idaho Press.
The Ada County Sheriff's Office detective who suffered multiple injuries while responding to a critical incident has been cited by Idaho State Police.
ISP has cited Detective Dallas Denney "for failing to practice due regard pursuant to Idaho Code 49-623 while responding to the critical incident," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Denney on Saturday night was responding to the shooting that resulted in the deaths of Deputy Tobin Bolter and Dennis Mulqueen; Mulqueen is believed to have shot Bolter during a traffic stop, and Mulqueen was later shot and killed by police. Bolter died the next day at the hospital.
Denney, while she was en route to assist Bolter, was involved in a crash with another vehicle and a power pole near South Meridian and East Amity Roads; both Denney and the other driver were taken to the hospital and later released with non-life-threatening injuries. Denney's injuries included a broken pelvis and fractured spine.
ISP investigated the crash and determined that Denney violated the aforementioned statute, which outlines exceptions emergency and police vehicles may make to the rules of the road.
"Per policy when a deputy is accused of, cited or arrested regarding any alleged criminal action, the ACSO conducts an independent internal affairs investigation into the deputy’s conduct to determine if the deputy may have violated ACSO policy or procedure," the sheriff's office said. "A finding of a policy violation may then result in the ACSO making the determination if any further professional discipline is appropriate, which will be handled as a personnel matter."
