The Idaho Foodbank will distribute food on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Ford Idaho Center. Food will be distributed in the center’s parking lot from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., or until food runs out.

There are no requirements to be eligible to receive food, according to The Idaho Foodbank website.

Volunteers can sign up for positions at idahofoodbank.volunteerhub.com as slots remain available.

Shifts start as early as 8 a.m. and last as late as 2:30 p.m. with several volunteer time-slot options. Positions include traffic control, recording information and loading boxes.

The Idaho Foodbank is an independent, donor-supported, nonprofit organization founded in 1984, and is the largest distributor of free food assistance in the state, according to its website. The Idaho Foodbank said in the last fiscal year, it has provided over 22 million meals for Idahoans in need. It says that The Idaho Foodbank distributes food through a network of more than 480 community-based partners including schools, food pantries, senior centers, feeding sites, shelters, and churches.

The food distributions have been held monthly for quite some time according to Public Relations Director Theresa Vawter.

“The food available varies based on our inventory,” Vawter wrote in an email. “But some of the foods that are regularly part of this distribution are fruits and vegetables and cereals.”

Over the past year, Vawter said the foodbank has served an average of 1,000 households a month in Nampa.

As it only has facilities in Meridian, Pocatello and Lewiston, the foodbank collaborates with partners across the state to meet communities’ needs.

If anyone is unable to make it to this distribution, other resources and pantries can be located via idahofoodbank.org/get-help.

The next distribution at the Ford Idaho Center will be on Feb. 14. Questions can be directed to 208-336-9643.
