Rocky Mountain High School wrestling coach Guy Bullock, his family and their four pets are all safe after a fire destroyed the family’s house in Meridian on Sunday evening.
Bullock told the Idaho Press on Monday that the fire started around 5 p.m. on Sunday when the carburetor of a minibike one of his sons was working on in the garage caught fire and spread to a nearby gas can, which exploded. The family had roughly 60 seconds to escape before the entire house caught fire.
Bullock, his wife Molly and their two sons, Cael and Jackson, escaped unscathed and got their two dogs out of the house as they left. Firefighters later rescued the family's two cats.
While the full extent of the damage is still to be determined, Bullock said that the family expects to be displaced from their house for the next 16 months.
Bullock said insurance will cover much of the expenses the family will have during this time, but a GoFundMe has been set up by a family friend to help with those expenses not covered.
As of Monday afternoon, roughly six hours after the GoFundMe had been posted, nearly $11,000 had been raised with more than 130 people donating.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with people wanting to help,” Bullock said.
