Second gentleman Doug Emhoff is scheduled to stop in Idaho this week.

A private fundraising event will host Emhoff, the husband of Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who will be speaking at a campaign reception in Ketchum on Thursday. Details on the time or location of the event were not disclosed by the Harris campaign.

Emhoff's appearance in Ketchum was first reported by the Idaho Statesman.

The visit comes just a week after the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention, where Harris was officially confirmed as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

The Harris campaign did not say what brings Emhoff to Ketchum specifically, but the second gentleman will also be stopping in Colorado and California in the coming days, a campaign spokesperson said.

The city is known to be a higher-income area, with a median household income just over 18% higher than the state average. Based on surveys conducted in 2022, Ketchum’s median household income was estimated to be $87,478, compared to the state’s median household income of $72,785, according to data from the United States Census Bureau.

It is also known that there is significant Democratic presence surrounding Ketchum. Blaine County, which is included in Idaho’s 26th legislative district, is represented by two Democratic officials: Idaho state Sen. Ron Taylor and Idaho Rep. Ned Burns.

Taylor and Burns are two of 18 Democrats in the Republican-dominated Idaho Legislature.

Additional Democratic representation can be found among positions specific to Blaine County as well. Blaine County’s three county commissioners — Muffy Davis, Angenie McCleary and Lindsay Mollineaux — are all Democrats. The county’s sheriff, assessor, prosecuting attorney and treasurer are also Democrats, according to the Idaho Democratic Party website.

Though Emhoff’s stop isn’t expected to sway the outcome of the presidential election for Idaho, members of the Idaho Democratic Party previously spoke of heightened enthusiasm within the party following Harris’ nomination, as previously reported by the Idaho Press.
