A student brought a weapon to Caldwell High School on Thursday morning, and while the school went into lockdown, was quickly arrested, the Caldwell School District said.

Jessica Watts, the district’s communications director, said that this all went down shortly before 10 a.m. and that other students were the ones who first took note of the situation. It is unclear which type of weapon the student brought to the school.

“This morning we had brave students who notified school administration of something amiss, and so our school administration obviously took action and confronted the student,” Watts said. “They fled campus and were immediately arrested, and everyone was safe.”

Watts said that the school’s private security officers and the Caldwell Police Department, which arrived within minutes, were both involved in apprehending the student. Campus was under lockdown for less than 10 minutes, and was in hall check (where normal classroom activities continue with all interior doors locked) for 15 to 20 minutes.

The district notified parents via email at 10:30 a.m. and though operations have since gone back to normal, there would be an increased police presence at the school through the end of the day, Watts said.

Caldwell police said that they were still interviewing the teen suspect and could not provide any more comment as of early Thursday afternoon.
