The United States Women’s National Hockey Team is coming to Boise this fall for a match against rival Canada.

USA Hockey and the Idaho Steelheads announced Friday that the two teams will play at Idaho Central Arena on Nov. 10 as part of 2024-25 Rivalry Series, giving fans in the Treasure Valley a chance to watch some of the best players in the world.

“We are extremely excited to welcome both Team USA and Team Canada to Boise come (November),” Steelheads’ President Eric Trapp said in a release. “The growth of hockey in the Treasure Valley has continued to flourish over the years and we are looking forward to expanding the game further as we welcome some of the best athletes in the world to our city come the fall.”

The rivalry series between the two women’s national team dates back to 2019. The 2024-25 edition will consist of five games, three in the United States in November and two more in Canada in February. Other games will be announced at a later date. The games are played on rinks varying in size from junior hockey-level arenas all the way up to NHL arenas. The games are usually televised on NHL Network.

The 2023-24 Series consisted of seven games, with the United States taking the first three, but Canada taking the last four.

The game in Boise will give Team USA captain Hilary Knight, a Sun Valley native, a chance to play in her home state. Knight has competed in the last four Olympic Games for Team USA, leading it to a Gold Medal finish in the 2018 Pyeongchang games. She has also been a part of nine teams that have won the IIHF World Women’s Championship.

Tickets for the contest are expected to go on sale in June.
