KTVB spoke to the stars of Boat Story, two strangers, Daisy Haggard (Back to Life, Breeders) and Paterson Joseph (Wonka, Timeless), as Janet and Samuel, who stumble upon a shipwrecked boat full of cocaine. With each of them desperate for a fresh start, they agree to sell the contraband for the needed cash. But on their tail are the police, masked hit men, and a sharp-suited gangster known only as "The Tailor." When two ordinary people are tempted to do the wrong thing, will self-preservation and conscience win over greed?
Light spoilers
Crime and punishment, opportunity, and moral disclaimers are constant plot and premise themes—from books and films to TV series like the latest series, Boat Story.
Our protagonists in Boat Story are Janet (Daisy Haggard) and Sam (Paterson Joseph), who have a not-so-cute-meet seaside by a beached boat with extraordinary and dangerous cargo.
A chance opportunity that could change their lives forever, except that it's criminal and belongs to someone else, a gangster, who won't make it easy for these two who desperately and for different reasons need the windfall to fix their own lives.
Other characters include a psychopathic French gangster called The Tailor (Tchéky Karyo), a cop (Ethan Lawrence), and his mum (Joanna Scanlon), plus a narration by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.
The series hails from the BBC and now will air on Freevee; this six-part thriller has violence, laughs, and whip-fast Brit repartee that anyone who loves a good Guy Ritchie or Quentin Tarantino flick will enjoy.
Written by Jack Williams and Harry Williams (The Tourist, Baptiste, The Missing), brothers who pose the moral dilemma and the question, what would you do if you found something worth a fortune?
Set in a coastal town off Yorkshire, Janet and Sam cross paths and make a gruesome discovery. A caveat for the viewership: this is not a family-friendly series but a terrific watch for a mature audience.
Of that, Paterson told KTVB, "[I'm not a fan of] violence without consequences because I think violence always has consequences. Whether we see the victim or the victim's family or not, I always think about that bit. You've taken out all these people, but what about the consequences of it? [Boat Story] shows you that every action has a consequence. And actions as amoral or immoral. These two [characters] will have terrible consequences, which they do. But what Jack and Harry do brilliantly is dose it with humor."
Tune in: Boat Story will exclusively premiere on March 12th. All six episodes will be available upon premiere.
