Without shoes, children are especially vulnerable to diseases, parasites and injury. And since their feet grow so quickly, kids often outgrow donated shoes within a year.
"The Shoe That Grows" program from Because International provides durable and adjustable shoes to children in poverty-impacted areas. (Shoes expand five sizes and lasts for years.) Fremont Middle School in Kuna has a goal to send 1,000 pairs of shoes to kids in Kenya.
"Our 7th graders get a perspective of global issues," says Timothy Jensen, principal of Fremont Middle School. "It helps them build a sense of compassion."
