American Idol producer talks virtual auditions

The hit series kicks off Season 8 in Spring 2025

Idaho Today had an exclusive chat with supervising producer Patrick Lynn, a five-time Emmy nominee, about how Idahoans can enter to participate in the nationwide audition call. 

The singing competition hit series American Idol will kick off its eighth season on ABC in the Spring of 2025. Still, before that, it will hold a Zoom audition round for anyone to enter, with Idaho's date being Monday, August 26.

The Zoom interview and audition for the show's producers can lead to an invitation for the contestants to audition in front of the judges in one of the audition cities. Additionally, American Idol alumnus Carrie Underwood has replaced Katy Perry on the judging panel. Underwood rose to fame for winning the fourth season of the show, which then aired on Fox before moving to ABC. She will sit alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan on the panel for Season 25.

Lynn is the Supervising Television Producer for Idol and has five Emmy nominations for his work on the long-running series, technically in its 23rd season. The show jumped to ABC in 2016 and now counts the new season as season 8. His team is holding virtual auditions at Gem State next week. The singing competition hit series will kick off its eighth season on ABC in the Spring of 2025.

American Idol is holding a live virtual nationwide search America's next superstar. The event allows contestants to showcase their talents virtually from anywhere in America.

Contestants must be between the ages of 15 and 28. If you want to audition, you must also be a legal U.S. resident with the proper work authorizations to participate. Hopefuls can sign up to audition face-to-face with producers and receive real-time feedback to make Idol history and be crowned the next American Idol for season eight on ABC.

According to ABC, 'Idol' alum KB and McKenna Breinholt will be involved during the Idaho auditions. They will join hopefuls in the waiting room for Q&A, audition tips, and more. And the winner of American Idol receives $125,000 just for securing the winning spot in the competition. Although the number of auditions in each city can exceed 10,000, only a few hundred will advance past the preliminary round. Successful contestants then sing before producers, where more cuts can happen.
