Host Mellisa Paul walked with The Lively executive chef Edward Higgins through his search for unique ingredients to make a mouth-watering ceviche.

They walked Purple Sage Farms and found lemongrass, the last thing the chef expected to find out in Middleton. Add habaneros, Corsican mint, and lemon basil to pair with the ceviche. "We wanted to treat the ingredients with respect," said Chef.

The Lively’s executive chef, Edward Higgins, values simplicity and resourcefulness. The upscale chic eatery is one of Boise's most popular spots for drinks, offering a robust happy hour to private events and even weekend high teas. This time of year is when the restaurant glows with tasteful and festive decor, making it a wonderful choice for anyone's holiday party.

Chef Higgins' resume and credentials are impressive; he has worked in food meccas worldwide, including San Francisco, Tokyo, Boston, Portland, and Hawaii. He trained in Osaka and Tokyo, Japan, and earned New York’s Insieme Restaurant a Michelin Star. Ched Edward values the local economy here in Idaho. He consistently relies on building strong relationships, stating, “The theory being if you are to keep it simple, it has to be good, and in order for it to be good, it has to be from a verifiable source, someone with integrity, sharing the same values that you have.”

The Lively’s kitchen with filled with ingredients from local Idaho farmers, ranchers, and food crafters. He supports Purple Sage Farms, Ballard Dairy, Idaho Springs, Gutierrez Family Farms, and Acme Bakery, just a few of the local purveyors with whom Chef Edward has built solid relationships. In fact, these farm and ranch families are fondly referred to as “collaborative partners” at The Lively and are regularly featured on the seasonal menus.
