Thelma, Hope In The Water and Idaho Mom Rules on Discovery's Hit Survival Series

What's On with April Neale

Idaho Today host Mellisa Paul sat with Idaho Today's entertainment producer and journalist, April Neale, to make a quick list of must-see films and shows for a broad audience. The top of her list was the small film "Thelma," starring Oscar nominee June Squibb, who plays a wronged scam victim who turns the proverbial tables on her scammer in this unlikely action-movie nonagenarian action comedy. Aiding her is the late Richard Roundtree as the seniors get their revenge.

"Thelma," stars Oscar nominee June Squibb (Nebraska) and the last role of the late Richard Roundtree, "Thelma: is currently playing in theaters like the Flicks in Boise if you want to experience all the film's twists and turns in traditional cinema. However, VOD streaming services also allow people to watch films at home. On November 25, 2024, "Thelma" will be available on Max.

As for the fish and the sea? PBS has a brilliant three-part series from executive producers David E. Kelley and Chef Andrew Zimmern titled "Hope In The Water," where episode two of "Farming in Water" airs 9-10 p.m. ET this Wednesday, June 26.

Farmed fish has a big PR problem rooted in a legacy of pollution and environmental disaster. But innovative technologies and reconsidering ancient practices hold secrets to sustainably feeding our growing population. In this second episode, multi-talented entrepreneur, tastemaker, author, and conservationist Martha Stewart heads to Maine, where she learns how shellfish farmers have built a scallop farm off the coast of Maine.

Stewart has a deep connection to the Gulf of Maine –it is the fastest-warming body of water on the planet. She sails into Penobscot Bay, where Andrew Peters, a young fisherman, abandoned his plans of lobstering for a more sustainable alternative: scallop farming. As Stewart cooks the scallops, she notes that Maine's famous lobsters are migrating north in search of colder water. Aquafarms like this are the future. Neale and Paul also discuss Idaho's connection to this story through Kelley's company, Riverence, in the Snake River Valley.

For the fans of 'Naked and Afraid,' the intense survival series is reaching its climax as 'Naked and Afraid XL' wraps up its tenth season on June 30. The show follows a group of seasoned individuals as they strive to survive 40 days in the challenging Columbia Badlands in South America with no food, water, or clothing. Among the participants is our Idaho mom, Lynsey McCarver, who has impressed viewers with her resilience and fair play.

With eight survivalists remaining, mostly women, the question on everyone's mind is: will Lynsey make it to the extraction?
