Idaho woman among finalists in 'Cake Boss' nationwide competition

The winner will get $10,000, meet Buddy Valastro and be featured in the Bake from Scratch Magazine.

JEROME, Idaho — An Idaho woman is one step closer to meeting her baking icon. She’s a finalist in Buddy Valastro's 'Greatest Baker Contest.' Buddy is also known as the ‘Cake Boss.’

Alisha English lives in Jerome. She told KTVB, it was a happy accident when she stumbled on a post about the contest on Facebook and entered. Her love for baking started at a young age, watching her mom and grandma in the kitchen.

“We baked a lot, you know, homemade everything, “English said.

That experience, mixed with her passion, created the perfect recipe for English to become a self-proclaimed home baker.

“It's a fundraiser for the be positive foundation, and anything, any votes that are purchased go towards that and the winner will get $10,000. You get flown to meet buddy, and you also get featured in bake from scratch magazine,” English said.

Over the years, English has made cakes for birthdays, baby showers and weddings.

“I just do it from home,” English said. “I've never had like a storefront or bakery.”

She's hoping that'll change if she wins. She told KTVB, she'll use the money to open her own bakery, but winning the money would just be the icing on the cake. For English, it's all about the chance to meet the cake boss himself.

“He's been like my idol for baking forever, apart from my mother and my grandmother and he's like the main one who I’ve kind of focused on,” English said. “I'd be over the moon to meet him and be like, ‘Hey, you're the reason I’m a baker.’”

The Be+ Foundation is about kids helping kids fight cancer.

Thursday is the final day for group voting at 8 p.m. Whoever places first moves on to the next round of voting. As of this report, English was in second place. She added, she recently found out there are other Idahoans in the competition.

After the story aired, KTVB learned that Emily Barnhart from Nampa is also a contestant in the competition. For further information about Barnhart or to vote, visit this link
