COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - The Coeur d'Alene Police Department is encouraging city residents to use the department's parking lot when completing sales transactions with strangers.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that Sgt. Christie Wood says the department wanted to provide a safe meeting place for citizens who sell and buy things on websites like Craigslist or through classified ads.

Wood says the department hopes they can prevent crimes by making their parking lot available and support those that are making legitimate business deals.

The Post Falls Police Department has already opened up their parking lot as a safe meeting place.

Post Falls Police Capt. Greg McLean says the safety measure has been a success.
