POST FALLS, Idaho – The Post Falls Police Department is investigating the death of dogs whose owner said they were poisoned.
The investigation is in the early stages, but Post Falls Police said the owner believes someone in the neighborhood poisoned her dogs. Police said the report came from the Fieldstone subdivision, near Bogie and Dandelion on Tuesday.
Brittany Wander said when she took Axel and Marley to the vet, she was told there was antifreeze in their blood and they would not recover.
She said Monday night she noticed that one of her dogs was off balance and had trouble responding to people. So they took that dog to the vet to get it treated. When they came home, they then noticed that the other dog, Axel was also sick. The next day she said, they ended up having to take both dogs to the hospital. At that point, the owner said doctors ran tests on one of the dogs. That test came back positive for antifreeze, she said. At that point, she said they had no choice but to euthanize the dogs.
After that, she and her roommates searched their home for any kind of antifreeze but could not find any.
In the back yard, however, they said they found vomit from the dogs that they say contained some type of meat.
Meat that they are positive they did not feed to their dogs. At that point, a family member and neighbors suggested that the dogs could have been poisoned.
According to police, the owner added that she did not have any ideas as to who was possibly responsible for this. She does suspect that it could be someone in the neighborhood.
The investigation is ongoing.
