The Idaho Transportation Department is receiving a $15.7 million grant from the federal government to replace the century-old Cherrylane Bridge that spans the Clearwater River.

A 100-year old bridge in Idaho will soon be replaced thanks to a grant from the federal government.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Choa announced Tuesday that Idaho will receive $15.7 million in discretionary grant money to replace the Cherrylane Bridge over the Clearwater River in Nez Perce County. That's in northern Idaho on Highway 95.

“In this round, in which 60 percent of the applications were for rural projects, 62 projects were awarded to rural areas. And as a result more rural communities will benefit from significant improvements and access to reliable safe and affordable transportation,” said Choa.

More than 850 applications were reviewed from across the country this year, nearly doubling the number of applications from a year ago.

The new bridge in Nez Perce County will have shoulder bikeways on each side for cyclists and pedestrians. It will have turn lanes and will relocate the bridge approach intersection with Highway 12.
