Idahoans blocked from using paid fantasy sports sites

Attorney General Lawrence Wasden announced Monday that two companies operating online fantasy sports leagues have agreed to stop providing the service to Idaho residents.

BOISE -- Idaho fantasy sports fans are now blocked from betting on sports contests through two large paid fantasy sports companies.

Attorney General Lawrence Wasden announced Monday that two companies operating online fantasy sports leagues have agreed to stop providing the service to Idaho residents.

Wasden says he began investigating DraftKings Inc. and FanDuels Inc. in January. After a three-month long negotiation, the companies agreed to block online Idaho contestants from participating starting this month.

Wasden says the online sport contest, where fans bet on players' performances, is considered illegal gambling in Idaho.

The companies can monitor the location of participants through geo-blocking technology or IP addresses.

The agreement does allow companies to resume operating in Idaho if the Legislature changes the state's strict gambling law or if a judge overturns the statute.
