KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — Kootenai County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies found a 70-year-old woman and her dog around 9:15 p.m. after she had been reported missing on Wednesday, September 4.

KCSO says the woman was reported missing by her husband after she left to walk her dog near the Fourth of July Summit Pass and did not return.

Deputies began searching for the woman and the Kootenai County Regional Air Support Unit helicopter, ABLE 1, was sent to the area to assist in the search.

KCSO says deputies found the woman's car near the trails and the air support helicopter used its camera and spotlight to locate the woman and her dog on the trail.

Deputies on the ground were directed to her location and they confirmed that she and the dog were safe and unharmed.

According to KCSO, the woman said she had become disoriented on the trails in the dark.
