KELLOGG, Idaho — Silver Mountain Resort's general manager, Jeff Colburn, was elected by the Idaho Ski Areas Association board of directors as its new president following their annual meeting on June 4.

Colburn has worked in the resort industry for more than three decades. He earned a bachelor's degree in marketing while studying at Eastern Washington University. After graduating college, he taught skiing, worked in tourism, and built houses before joining Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond, Ore., in 1991.

Colburn was transferred to Silver Mountain in 2005, where he was given the title of general manager the following year.

During his time at Silver Mountain, he completed a variety of projects within the resort, such as Idaho's largest indoor waterpark, Silver Rapids; the winter tubing park and the summit magic carpet; the picturesque nine-hole golf course; Galena Ridge; the Silver Mountain Sports Shop, plus the new shops within the Gondola Village; and a new ski runs and a second food-and-beverage venue that resides on the mountain.

Having a four-year term as Ski Idaho president, Colburn says his main objectives will be helping nurture sustainable growth that increases the Gem State's share of western U.S. snowboarder and skier visits.

"Idaho has a lot to offer the in-state and out-of-state skiing populations. There are also many challenges facing the ski business that we as an association need to continue seeking viable long-term solutions for so all can continue to enjoy the pristine mountains of Idaho," said Colburn.
