BOISE, Idaho — Community members and law enforcement honored Idaho's fallen officers during a candlelight vigil Wednesday.
The annual event was held in conjunction with National Police Week at the Idaho Peace Officers' Memorial in Meridian, which was created several decades ago.
A couple of hundred people from around the Treasure Valley showed up, including law enforcement from the Boise Police Department, Idaho State Police, Ada County Sheriff's Office, Garden City Police, etc.
The memorial honors 76 officers who died in the line of duty. Sheldon Kelley, ISP lieutenant colonel and memorial board president, said these events give Idahoans the space to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Kelley said Idaho is unforgettable because people turn out during National Police Week no matter what, even if they do not know someone on the wall.
If you missed Wednesday's event, there is a memorial ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday at the memorial. It will last about an hour.
Tobin Bolter, the Ada County Sherrif's deputy who died recently in the line of duty, will be added to the wall next year.
