BOISE, Idaho — June is Idaho Wine and Cider Month, and wineries across the state are hosting events to celebrate.
In 2022, the wine industry had a $314 million impact, which was a 50% increase, according to the Idaho Wine Commission. In addition, 900 thousand people visited an Idaho winery that year.
“Each winery is so different and unique. There really is truly something for everyone out there,” said Samantha Maxey, owner of the Snake River Wine Tours.
Maxey said when you’re drinking a glass of wine from Idaho, you’re supporting so many other industries without even realizing it.
“We’re not only supporting the local wineries that we’re visiting, but we’re also supporting the fruit growers, the producers, even the local grocery store clerks,” Maxey said. “When you’re buying a bottle of local wine, you’re supporting so many different businesses.
Idaho is home to 70 wineries, five cideries, and three American Viticultural Areas.
Throughout the state, 3,100 jobs are created by the industry.
The Idaho Wine Commission said Idaho is unique in that is has a good mix of both urban wineries in the Boise area, and more rural wineries in northern Idaho.
