Increase of Valley County overdose deaths prompts officials to share health resources

In 2024, there have been four drug overdose deaths in Valley County, two of which involved fentanyl.

BOISE, Idaho — Officials in Valley County are concerned about the rise in overdoses since the new year. In response, the Central District Health and Valley County Opioid Response Project (VCORP) is sharing free resources with the community.

VCORP said in a Monday news release from January to March 2024, the Valley County Coroner Scott Carver confirmed four drug overdose deaths, two of which involved fentanyl.

"The rise in fatal overdoses underscores the pressing need for accessible resources and interventions to address substance use disorder and prevent further tragedies," Carver said. "Local agencies and community organizations are focused on increasing awareness, expanding support and access to treatment options, and distributing Narcan."

Both organizations compiled a list of free resources for overdose prevention training and how to request free Narcan.
