BOISE -- Prison officials are investigating after an inmate at the Idaho State Correctional Institution died Sunday.
Dean Clay Miller, 47, was found unconscious in his cell Sunday at about 1:20 p.m. Staff members attempted to resuscitate him and called 911, but Miller was pronounced dead after paramedics arrived.
A spokesman for the Idaho Department of Correction said the death appears to be a suicide.
Miller was serving a sentence of 28 years to life after a 2008 conviction for assault with intent to commit robbery, burglary and possession of a controlled substance. He would not have been eligible for parole until 2036.
The inmate had also been convicted of burglary in Bannock County in 2005 and was classified as a persistent violator. The Ada County Sheriff's Office is assisting IDOC with the investigation into Miller's death.
