CANYON COUNTY - An Idaho State trooper has suffered minor injuries after performing a traffic stop on Interstate 84 in Canyon County.

The crash happened at around 2:45 p.m. on westbound I-84 beyond McDermott Road.

ISP Sgt. Scott Tulleners said a motorcycle sergeant stopped a Ford pickup at around 2:30 p.m. near milepost 40.

The sergeant was recontacting the pickup's driver on the passenger side when a Dodge pickup changed lanes and hit the trailer of a semi, Tulleners said.

Witnesses said the Dodge's driver began to pull over to the right shoulder and hit the Ford pickup.

The Ford was pushed into the sergeant, who jumped over the barrier to avoid further injuries.

He was transported by ISP to a Meridian hospital for evaluation, but Tulleners expected him to be released Tuesday afternoon.

The drivers of both vehicles would likely be transported to a hospital by ambulance, ISP spokesperson Teresa Baker said shortly after the crash.

Police ask driver to pay attention to police and other emergency vehicles, and if they are able move over to do so - and to do it safely.

The right two lanes of the westbound interstate were shut down near the crash for about two hours, but the crash was cleared and all lanes of I-84 were reopened as of around 5 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
