NAMPA, Idaho — On Nov. 26, a Canyon County judge sentenced a man to 30 years in prison for committing crimes in relation to the death of a Nampa woman in January 2023.
Justino Morales Ramos, 31, was sentenced by Honorable Gabriel J. McCarthy to 30 years in prison for aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. The sentence was the maximum possible sentence allowed under law.
On Jan. 9, 2023, the Nampa Police Department (NPD) got a 911 call reporting a deceased individual at a Nampa apartment, said a news release from the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. When officers arrived, they found Maria Criselda Reyes Esparza, 38, dead and wrapped in a deflated air mattress. She had slashes to her throat and signs she was struck hard in the head.
Ramos was arrested two days later after a woman reported him to police. KTVB previously reported the woman saw his photo in the news media, recognizing Ramos as a man she had offered shelter.
Ramos charged with aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. He pleaded guilty to those charges on March 12, 2024.
After pleading guilty, Ramos was sentenced on Nov. 26, 2024 by Judge McCarthy. Ramos will not be eligible for parole. Ramos was also ordered to pay restitution to the family.
