TWIN FALLS -- City council members officially appointed Nampa Police chief Craig Kingsbury to the top cop spot for Twin Falls Monday evening.
Kingsbury, who spent 24 years with the Nampa Police Department, announced earlier this month he was resigning to take the job in Twin Falls. His last day with Nampa is slated for Dec. 17.
Twin Falls' search for a new chief spanned more than a year. Kingsbury was one of more than a dozen finalists in the selection process.
Twin Falls City Manager Travis Rothweiler said city leaders wanted to be sure they had found the right candidate for the job.
"After what has been a lengthy and exhaustive search, we are pleased to announce today that Craig Kingsbury has been appointed to continue the history of excellence and leadership in our police department," Rothweiler said in a press release. "We appreciate the patience of our community and our police department during this process, but it is not a decision that we make lightly in our organization. We have set high standards within our organization to serve our citizens, and I have no doubt in my mind that Kingsbury is the right person to carry on that tradition in the Twin Falls Police Department."
Kingsbury is set to be sworn in as the Chief of Police on December 21, taking the helm from interim police chief Bryan Krear.
