Ada County warns of jury duty scammers pretending to be law enforcement

According to the county, one person in the area has lost $1,700.

ADA COUNTY, Idaho — According to the Ada County Jury Commissioner, a new scam has been occuring in the area. The scammers are pretending to be in law enforcement and telling people they failed to show up for jury duty.

"Scammers manipulate caller ID to look official. They identify themselves as an official from the Jury Office, a law enforcement officer, or sometimes a  judge.  The scammer says there's a warrant out for your arrest because you failed to appear for jury service and they demand you pay a fine ASAP," the release stated.

The commissioner added that although not showing up for jury duty does have consequences, the department would never ask for money and this is a scam.
