IDAHO, USA — Local ski resorts will have an incoming cold front to be thankful for as they prepare for the start of the ski season. While Idaho waits for more snow, Bogus Basin is kicking their season off early this weekend by opening the Explorer Terrain Park.
Because, according to the resort... who needs Mother Nature when you have got an arsenal of snow makers?
"Thanks to the snowmaking team, we were fortunate enough to make a little man made snow," Nate Shake, Bogus Basin's director of mountain operations said. "Enough to have this park today, and open to the public."
Even with temps still in the 40's, Bogus Basin started its season of shredding early, welcoming skiers and snowboards to the Terrain Park on Saturday and Sunday.
"Come on up," Shake said. "And get a little taste of the winter."
A taste of winter, while the nonprofit ski area hopes for its main course of snow.
"We're hoping for some snow here in the next coming days, and some cooler temperatures," Shake said. "We'll start making some more snow and do as much as we can to get more of the mountain open."
Bogus Basin is currently targeting the Friday after Thanksgiving for its official season opening, although opening is dependent on weather conditions and how much snow the mountain sees. That timeframe leaves skiers and snowboards with about a week left to wax their gear and zip up for another season on the slopes.
"It was a great vibe today," Shake said. "Everybody was super excited to be here, everybody was having a ton of fun. All the staff gets to see their hard work pay off by being able to open even a little part of the mountain to get things kicked off."
The Explorer Terrain Park is open Sunday Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.. Tickets are $10. More information can be found here.
