BOISE, Idaho — Artist James Peterson has been selected to design and create a sculpture for Redwood Park, located at 2675 Shamrock St. in Boise's Ustick-West Valley neighborhood.
The news release from the city stated the goal of the piece will be to draw inspiration from the natural beauty and the delightful experience of strolling among fruit gardens. It will also pay respect to the agricultural heritage of the historic Ustick Townsite, which at one point, was the area's largest apple orchard and served as a site for fruit processing and canning.
This project is a collaboration between the city of Boise and the West Valley Neighborhood Association, the news release stated. It is funded through the Neighborhood Investment Program and the city's Percent for Art Ordinance. The art project is planned to be installed in 2024.
James Patterson was selected after a nationwide call for artists, and was decided upon by the Boise City Council, Arts & History Commission, Boise Parks and Recreation, Energize Our Neighborhood and West Valley Neighborhood Association, as well as local artists and business community members.
While Patterson works towards a final design, he asks that the community gather input that will help guide his work.
You can join the city of Boise's Public Art Team for community input sessions regarding the Redwood Park the following dates:
- Thursday, November 9, from 1 to 4 p.m.
- Saturday November 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
