ADA COUNTY, Idaho — The Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI) has been having problems with the heating system used in the Unit 14's D-tier. According to ISCI spokesman Jeff Ray, 94 men live in the unit and the prison has given an additional blanket to the prisoners affected while they fix the problem.
"Our maintenance team has been working to repair the system. This afternoon a contractor identified the apparent problem -- a broken ethernet cable that connects the tier's heating unit with the heat-plant control system," said Ray.
He added that the temperature in the dayroom on Friday, Jan. 12 was 64 degrees and the temperature on the upper and lower levels of that tier was 60 degrees.
There was no mention of when the system would be fixed but Ray did state that the prison is, "now confirming that communication between the tier's heating unit and the control system remains constant."
The weather forecast is stating that temperatures in the Treasure Valley will be dipping into the single digits over the next few days.
KTVB asked if the prison had a plan in place if the system was not fixed, ISCI had not answered that question by the time of publication.
