ITD asking snowmobilers to stay off mountain airport runways

The department designated trail areas to help people stay off the runways.

KETCHUM, Idaho — The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), is reminding snowmobilers to stay off mountain airport runways. The department said Smiley Creek and Big Creek airstrips have had an influx of people riding on runways and it can create dangerous conditions for pilots.

"Let's work together! Snowmobiles and ski planes can coexist harmoniously if we all do our part and respect each other's love of the snow. Please stick to the edges on snowmobiles to maintain a flat landing area for pilots," the department stated on social media.

ITD has designated trail areas to make sure people can still recreate but stay out of the flight paths. For more information people can go to idaho.gov.
