BOISE, Idaho — Local religious communities, civil rights organizations and activists are co-sponsoring discussions, protests and vigils prior to the scheduled execution of Thomas Creech.
Death Penalty Action, The ACLU of Idaho, Journey of Hope ... From Violence to Healing and local faith communities from Ahavath Beth Israel synagogue in Boise, the Cathedral of the Rockies, Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and the First United Methodist Church of Pocatello are hosting discussions, protests and vigils prior to scheduled execution on Wednesday, Feb 28.
Scheduled events: "Conversations About The Death Penalty"
2pm Sunday, February 25 at Cathedral of the Rockies in Boise
11am Tuesday, February 27 in front of the Idaho State Capitol - Delivery of thousands of petition signatures to the office of Idaho Governor Brad Little
7pm Tuesday, February 27 at Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Garden City
9am Wednesday at the entrance to the prison complex
9am via zoom and streaming on Death Penalty Action social media channels, a live Virtual Execution Vigil will gather death penalty opponents from across Idaho and beyond.
10am Wednesday - Churches across Idaho are invited to participate in the ForWhomTheBellsToll.org project, tolling their bells for two minutes at the scheduled time of execution.
All the events are free and open to the public.
Creech, 73, is Idaho's longest-serving death row inmate. This is Idaho's first execution since 2012.
