Snowy and slippery road conditions in the Treasure Valley

Law enforcement offices and Ada County Highway District are telling people to stay off the roads unless necessary.

BOISE, Idaho — The snowstorm on Saturday, Jan. 13 has left the city blanketed in snow, unfortunately that means the roads are also very treacherous right now. Both several law enforcement offices, including the Idaho State Police (ISP), and the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) are asking people to stay off the roads unless it is necessary.

Ada County Dispatch told KTVB they have had a lot of calls for slide offs and accidents because of the snowy weather. Since midnight of last night there has been 10 accidents and 20 slide offs.

Most of the highway is cleared in the valley but several main thoroughfares and most side streets in Boise remain unplowed.

ISP said they are investigating multiple slide offs and crashes.

"Due to winter driving conditions, roads are dangerous at this time and unless you HAVE to be outside, please stay indoors and at home. If you do have to drive, please remember to give yourself extra driving time and extra room for stopping," stated an ISP news release.

ACHD posted on social media that they still have crews working around the clock and have added additional contractors but as of noon, many streets remain unplowed.

"With the moisture and the low temps sticking around, roads, may be slick. Avoid travel if possible," Stated ACHD in a social media post.

The Boise Police Department (BPD) was digging out patrol vehicles this morning in the departments parking lot and said people can expect slick conditions around the city.

"If you have to leave the house today know that snowplows are out and getting it done on the major roads.  Still, you can expect slick conditions until it warms up. Drivers will want to use all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive in subdivisions and some side streets," the department posted.

The Nampa Police Department (NPD) has also asked people to stay off the roads and that they have received multiple calls of people getting stuck.

"If you don’t have to go out, don’t,' NPD wrote on social media. "Stay home, watch a movie, watch some football or connect with whoever you’re stuck with… yes - talk to one another. Make a snowman. Have a snowball fight (that’s the only kind of fight we’ll promote). How about a snow angel?"

The Caldwell Police are also asking people to stay home if possible and outside of the Treasure Valley, US-20 is closed in both directions from Mountain Home to Fairfield.
