SUN VALLEY, Idaho — Sun Valley Ski Resort, North America's first destination ski resort, announces new changes for their upcoming 88th season.
The resort plans on opening the season on Nov. 23. This season, they will be unveiling two new chairlifts, Challenger and Flying Squirrel. The new chairlifts are part of the Warm Springs Enhancement plan.
Also in the announcements, was the news of their new website. The site upgrades their platform, allowing guests to book online, look up lodging deals, lift tickets, lessons and rental equipment information. The new site also hosts the new winter 2023-24 trail map.
In addition to the new website, Sun Valley Resort has launched app push notifications and SMS text messaging for the most efficient guest communication around the resort.
Pete Sonntag, Sun Valley Resort VP and General Manager, said, "As we put the finishing touches on one of the most ambitious mountain projects we've undertaken in many years, I'm incredibly excited to welcome guests back to Sun Valley."
"We've upped our game in a meaningful way this year, with two new state-of-the-art chairlifts and a new trail that is destined to be a Sun Valley classic. Our completely rebuilt website will better showcase everything that makes Sun Valley so magical and will totally streamline the user experience," said Sonntag.
With the expansion, the original Challenger lift and the Greyhawk lift have been replaced with a cutting-edge Doppelmayr 6 seated chair lift, featuring a mid-station unload. The lift covers 3,138 vertical feet and takes just 8 minutes to ride. The new lift honors the previous Challenger by keeping the same name.
The Flying Squirrel lift, a 4 seated chair lift, will take guests from Warm Springs base to mid-mountain, offering access to terrain of all difficulties. Advanced skiers can reach Warm Springs via the newly extended Lower Flying Squirrel trail, which was also part of the expansion plan. They are slated to open mid-December.
If you're ready for snow, Sun Valley's winter season opening, the annual Pray for Snow Party is back. The River Run Lodge will host the party on Nov. 11 and asks guests to join the fun in vintage costumes. There will be a dance party, a raffle and a food drive benefiting Hunger Coalition.
Season passes are still available for this upcoming season.
