BOISE, Idaho — A 13-year-old Magic Valley boy was granted Make-A-Wish Idaho's 2000th wish on Dec. 31.
Holman has been battling lymphoma, a rare cancer that attacks the body's lymphatic system and its ability to thwart off potentially harmful germs.
According to the nonprofit organization, Holman chose his wish because he knew that Disneyland is a happy place where he could "focus on fun and forget about everything else." They stated he was particularly interested in riding on Splash Mountain and the wide variety of food that would be at the park.
"When he was so sick in the hospital and couldn't eat food by mouth for months, he talked about this. This wish kept his hopes up," said Holman's mother, Karin. "It gave him something to look forward to and he really is so grateful to get to go. Wishes are so much to these kids. Seriously, I can't tell you how this gave him a positive focus on a very scary and sad time of his life as he battled cancer and the complications."
Make-A-Wish Idaho Grants Its 2,000th Wish, Holman's Wish to Go to Disneyland
In Make-A-Wish Idaho's previous fiscal year, the foundation granted 127 wishes, according to a statement from Make-A-Wish. This year, the chapter hopes to grant 140 wishes.
According to a 2022 wish impact study conducted by the Make-A-Wish program, participants said that the opportunities provided through the program greatly contribute to the physical, mental and emotional health of the individual's granted wishes.
"Holman has been through a lot with his illness, and we are honored to celebrate his milestone wish," said Make-A-Wish Idaho President and CEO Janie Best. "Wishes provide much-needed hope during a difficult time, and every wish we grant is unique, important and amazing."
The Idaho chapter of Make-A-Wish was founded in 1986.
