Man drowns in Palisades Reservoir

The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office said the 25-year-old man was in a canoe that capsized.

BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho — A man has drowned after a canoe capsized in the in the Bear Creek Drainage of the Palisades Reservoir. According to the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) 25-year-old Damion Pavlat from Twin Falls drowned on the evening of Aug. 10.

The sheriff's office said that four people were canoeing without life jackets when the vessel overturned. The other three people were not injured.

"A search ensued on the ground and from the air for several hours through the night by rescue personnel, resuming in the daylight hours. By mid-morning, Divers located Mr. Pavlat in the water approximately 13' under the surface using sonar equipment and were able to recover his body," BCSO stated.

Deputies for BCSO are investigating.
