NAMPA, Idaho — Ahead of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Unleash The Beast tour in Nampa March 28 through March 30, Treasure Valley Subaru hosted the Nampa-based 'Man Up Crusade' Thursday featuring a live bull.
The local non-profit organization aims to raise awareness about domestic violence and promote healthy relationships through various campaigns.
Canyon County Sheriff Kiernan Donahue started the Man Up Crusade campaign 12 years ago with his wife, Jeannie.
The crusade partners with Professional Bull Riders, and each year the top riders compete in purple attire to show their support for the campaign against domestic violence.
"It brings not just a national attraction and a national audience and international audiences with as much reach as they have in the world of sports. And so, we are honored to be a part of it," Donahue said of the partnership with PBR. "But you know, Saturday night here at the Ford Idaho Center, we'll be turning it purple, the bull riders will have purple, all in solidarity, to show you know, we can talk about this issue."
In addition to activities and entertainment at Treasure Valley Subaru's event, perhaps the most exciting attraction was a bull named Ricky Vaughn, named from the movie Major League.
According to event organizers, Ricky was diagnosed with a rare condition about a year and a half ago, causing him to go blind. However, they said he has since recovered and will be back in the PBR arena in Nampa for the Unleash The Beast tour.
