City of Meridian holds grand opening of city's first trail hub

The newly opened Five Mile Creek Trailhub connects the east and west pathways, making it the longest public pathway in Meridian, which spans eight miles.

BOISE, Idaho — With warming temperatures, walking paths in the Treasure Valley burst in popularity, with the public enjoying the sun's rays. Meridian residents will now be able to enjoy the east and west Fivemile Creek pathways after officials open a trail hub connecting the two.

The City of Meridian held a ribbon-cutting for its new Fivemile Creek Trailhub at 3430 North Ten Mile Road, which is the city's first of its kind. City officials state the hub is important because it connects existing paths.

"We've been calling this project the 'Golden Spike' as it makes a key connection between existing pathways to the east and west," Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Steve Siddoway said in a news release. "The Fivemile Creek Pathway is now the longest dedicated pedestrian route in Meridian, running a distance of more than eight contiguous miles."

The new trailhub features a new sign, an area for the public to gather, benches, drinking fountains, and bike racks designed by a local artist named Ken McCall.

Mosaic art sculptures are also placed at the beginning of the trailhub, created by Nevada artist Eileen Gay.

During the grand opening, city officials walked a third of a mile from the trail hub to also celebrate the new section of pathway and a pedestiran bridge.
