MERIDIAN, Idaho — An annual event for the brave is happening this Thursday evening as vampires, mummies and the undead gather in downtown Meridian to seek delicious treats.
The City of Meridian is hosting its 10th annual Trunk or Treat, which will bring over 80 local businesses and organizations to share treats with those who are costumed. The event is free to attend and begins at 6 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. Thursday at Meridian City Hall.
Feature performances by Ballet Folklorico Mexico Lindo and the youth Xpressions Dance Academy begin at 6:45 p.m. Thursday on the City Hall Plaza.
Those who do attend will be asked to make a $1 donation, which will help support the Meridian Food Bank's Backpack Program. It provides food-insecure school children with six meals and two snacks to take home so they have something to eat over the weekend.
"Fundraising has already outpaced last year with a donation of $1,200 from Primrose School of North Meridian, but the need is even greater than in previous years," officials said in a news release.
For families with ghouls and ghosts with a sweet tooth, the City of Meridian provided a map of where to park downtown.
"Motorists are encouraged to take extra care to watch for pedestrians when driving in the downtown area as this annual event traditionally draws several thousand attendees," city officials said in a news release.
